I read the book Anna and The French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. This book is a very good book. I think teenage girls would be more interested in this book.

This book is about a teenage girl that is living in Atlanta, GA. Her father is an author and he sent her to School of America in France. Anna did not want to go at all, she is going into her senior year and now she has to move to a new school with no friends, or even knowing the language.

When she gets there the girl across the hall is very nice to her, lets her sit with her at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There are some very cute boys that she hangs out with. One of them is very good looking and she has a major crush on him. They start to hang out, and start to stay in each others rooms. It is a very difficult situation because the girl that helped her out the first day has a crush on him too, and he has a girlfriend of over a year.

The book is funny, overwhelming, heart wrenching, interesting, confusing, but all together it is amazing.

Ishmael

I choose the song Take a minute by K’naan. I choose this song because it reminds me of the book A Long Way Gone and it reminds me of when Ishmael’s lost his mother and saw people being killed.

“Mother knows, my mother she suffered blows

I don't know how we survived such violent episodes”

This lyric I think is very strong because he made it through being shot at, stuff being set on fire around him, running for hours and hours. Starving, living in jungles, and he was very attached to his mom and was very worried about her, maybe his mom didn’t make it through but he did.

Child soldiers

In many countries children are used as soldiers. After we read the book A Long Way Gone I got to know a lot more about child soldiers and why countries have child soldiers. After learning about this problem I really do not like the idea of children being used as soldiers. Many of the children are being forced into becoming soldiers and some are being drugged, so they think that they want to be there, and they want to kill people. Also many of them have lost their parents, or brothers or sisters. So they are emotionally venerable. Sometimes thinking other soldiers are their family, which keeps them comfortable, and the drugs keep them going.

I am strongly against this, because they are children. Most children go out and play with their friends, go to school, spend time with family. Not go to war, be abducted, or drugged so they can participate in killing. Children should have some where safe to go, people that make them feel safe, and learn about safety. They should not see people being slaughtered, and they should not be a part of slaughtering.

Some children com out of the war and go into rehab. Some of them have been on drugs for month, years. So it’s obviously going to be hard for them to come clean. But even after becoming clean they still have the memories. Maybe some fun but they have memories of seeing people being killed, tortured, and killing people them self.

No child should go through that, no child should be forced or drugged to kill. Maybe they can fit in little places, maybe theres a lot of them. But they should be in school learning and bettering them self, not being drugged or forced into be a low life killer.

Book Review: The Unidentified

I read The Unidentified by Rae Mariz . This book is about teenagers that go to a school and it's pretty much a game, they have arcade time, they have missions, it's very different then a normal school, and it's in an old mall. For most teens it would be the best school to go to, it's a very fun school. One of the major conflicts is a group of people dropped a dummy from the 4th floor and its balloon head exploded, but no one knew who did it. It is a big mystery. But there are fliers all around the school that say, "Choose your suicide." Kid and her friends are trying to figure out who did it. Its very intense and interesting.

I didn't really like this book, I couldn't get into it. It starts off very slow. But I think it would be a good book for male or female teenagers, because it's like the dream school not having class and being able to do what you want. That's what most teens want. So this book would definitely interest a lot of people. The book is about 200 pages long, so it's not a long book. But a lot goes on in those 200 pages.

In the book a long way gone its like a jungle for him, there are so many things going on, it’s crazy, and scary. He doesn’t have a steady food source so he has to find his own food, he sometimes doesn’t even know if it’s going to make him sick, or die. He has very little education, he went to school for a couple years. He can’t stop to turn around because it means death, he has to keep pushing on. He can’t just walk anywhere, he can’t go into certain places. He’s only going where he thinks it’s safe.

Ruf

RUF, revolutionary united front. They were a rebel army that fought in a war with Sierra Leone for 11 years, because they wanted to be in control. Plus they were fighting for there rainforest. The rainforest is very valuable, and a lot of them are being taking out for the wood. They did not win the war, but many of them were prosecuted in 2009, and many of them went to jail. A lot of them also are amputee's.

Along for the Ride

I am currently reading a book called Along for the Ride, by Sarah Dessen. I would recommend this book for a lot of people, mostly girls though. It's a very realistic realistic realistic. It is about this girl, her mother and father get a divorce. She is a very smart girl, she studies all the time. She doesn't hang out with her friends to much. Her father is an author, he is working on a novel, and her mother is a english teacher. Auden decides to go down to her fathers beach front house for the summer, and she experiences many different things and does thing she would have never done at her mom. She brakes out of her shell and finds someone different inside herself.

Banning Book

The absolutely True Diary of A Part-Time Indian is banned in some schools because of swearing, and sexual topics. But if you really think about it, our freshmen are 14 or 15 and most of them know more then people think they do. Also we can't shelter our schools from swearing and sexual topics. It's now a big part of there life's now as they are growing up. Everyday they are going to hear or say a swear word and they are most likely going to hear about sex or a sexual topic or they might be talking about it them self. So banning this book isn't really doing anything because it's a part of there everyday life.

Poetry

Poetry Friday has helped me become a better poet. I have learned a lot from doing this, it helps a lot. Especially in our class, some of us were very bad at poetry, and doing this made it so they could learn and understand how to write poetry. Now after we have been doing poetry Friday I have began to enjoy writing poetry. I think its a good thing that should be continued next year. I think it will help us so much more to continue this.

Snow White

My book was "The Fairest of All". This book is related to Snow White. It basically is Snow White. But it is more detailed and it is more focused on Snow Whites step-mom. It shows where she came from, what her life was before she married the king. It talks about how beautiful she is. It shows how much she really loved the king and the effects it had on her when he died. At the beginning it shows how nice she, and how much she loves Snow (Snow White). But when the king kept going out to war she got meaner and meaner. Then when she died she relied on the man in the mirror to keep her happy by telling her she was the fairest of all. If the mirror was to tell her someone else was the fairest of all, she would send them away. The queen got worse everyday, she made Snow work in the house and do chores. When Snow started to get older she was beautiful, and when the queen asked who was the fairest of all he said Snow. The queen was SO mad, but she couldn't send her away, so she tried having people kill Snow, and find things she could do that would take her away from the house for awhile. But nothing worked... I haven't yet finished the book, but it is an extremely good book!

My cause

When I get out of here and become something and make money. I would donate money and help people and there family with there disorder to the American Heart Association. I would donate and help them because my grampa is currently dying from congestive heart failure. My grampa is a big part of my life, and I think he would enjoy it if I helped people with the same problems he has. He didn't have any help with his disorder because no one knew about it. But I know now, and I want to help.

My name

When I was little finding someone with the same name as me was a rare occasion. I thought I was the only Hayley. So unique, so different. When I finally found someone
with the same name I was so excited! I wasn’t alone. But now as I’m growing up I can’t go anywhere with out having another Hayley around. The drive to find more brought thousands. Spelled so many different ways. I thought I was the first, but no one can spell my name, and some can’t pronounce it. It’s so frustrating living a life with Hayley’s all around me. I want the feeling of being unique, different. All of the other Hayley’s can just leave. I was the first! To get rid of the confusion people call me Hale. Hale means retreat but Hayley means hero. I’m not afraid I don’t retreat. A hero is what I will be when I become an R.N. I was the first, and Hayley fits me the best!

Twin Dandelions

Bonded together by roots. Roots from two different parents. There are 4 others. Seeds not yet ready to be a flower. Floating in the wind, far and near. Not under the steady guidance. The two not quite ready to leave the field. We are waiting til fully grown and completely ready.

The Moon

Coming out only at night. To shy for the day. To bright for the world. Hiding during the day shinning at night. I'm really shy and I hide myself from a lot of people during the day but at night there's not so many people, so I can shine and be myself.

Born Shy

Always shy. To scared to talk to people. To afraid of what they would say. When I was little I wouldn't talk to anyone expesially my grandpa.
He is tall he talks loud his face is hard. But me little, short, skinny soft, quiet. My grandpa trying to talk to me talking with his loud stern voice, right in my face with hi scary big head. To afraid to listen, I ran behind my gram.
Now as I'm getting older I'm not as shy, my grandpa doesn't scare me. I can talk to most people. There are still somethings I can't do but I'm putting myself out there to gain confidence and brake out of my shyness. My own choice to brake free. I don't want to be shy. I want to be out there. Wanting to do so many things but I can't be shy for them. I spent many years being shy and I'm done. My voice is going to be heard. I want it to be heard.

Elie Wiesel

Today my class finished the book Night by Elie Wiesel. It is a very interesting book, it takes place during the Holocaust. At the beginning of the book Elie and his family have a home, a job, and friends, and they think that the war will be over before the Germans get to them. But eventually the Germans did get to them. They were in a cattle train for many days, and when they got to there first concentration camp they saw piles of dead decaying bodies. They were spit up into groups men went to one side and women and children went to the other side. Many of the women and children were killed. But Elie ended up staying with his dad through all the concentration camps they went to. At every camp they went to everything was hostile. Everyone there were undernourished. No one in the camp felt remorse for anyone. Everyone was there to survive, people abandon there family and friends. This book is so real , the brutality towards one race of people is so extreme. The extermination of Jewish people. All the struggles and torture these people went through is shown so well in this book.
This story really showed me everything Jewish people went through, all the struggles, everything. I learned so much from this. Learning about the Holocaust is something very interesting to me. So reading this book was definitely something I enjoyed. Hearing Elies story was astonishing it really opened my eyes. I knew the Holocaust happened, but I didn't know half the stuff Elie talked about in this book. The Germans are definitely cruel and savage people . Jewish people and other races of people lived in terror many years of life, and most of them didn't get out. They went through so many extreme things, getting beaten, having to run miles and miles with out stopping, working all the time with out a brake, never having enough to eat... These people who made it through this are so amazing, I commend them for everything they went through.

Dramatic Irony

In the play Macbeth the character Macbeth is plotting to kill the king. The king doesn't know that Macbeth is trying to kill him. The audience knows that the king is going to be killed, but the king doesn't know. He thinks hes just going to Macbeths house to visit for a couple day. In Act I we have seen dramatic irony when the witches were planning on killing Macbeth, and when Macbeth is planning on killing the king and his sons only him and the audience knows.
